Significance of 28th Day Thread Ceremony for Newborns.

It is a common custom followed to tie a black or black and yellow thread around the the waist of a Newborn at the 28th day.Initially this custom was followed  exactly at the 28th day after the child was born. Now since people are pre-occupied with work this ceremony is conducted on a Holiday and extends to 29th or 30th day.Majority of the people do not know the significance of this ceremony why it has to be on the 28th day. There are 28 stars associated with our system starting with Aswathy,Bharani and going up-to Abhijith (28th Star.2.5 Nazhika). Normally Astrologers take only 27 stars into consideration because Abhijith has a short time duration when compared to other stars. But Abhijith is strong during the period when it is present.28 days constitute a Chandra Masa(Moon Month). In 28 days these stars will come face to face with the Moon one by one.The rays from the star will get mixed with the rays of the Moon and Somam( A subtle matter in the form of liquid ) whi

Life Principle of Plants

Hindu or Bharathyia culture considers World as one family  (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam). This single entity includes all living and non living beings. In this post we look at plant kingdom and how it is closely associated with human beings.Plants around you can be the reincarnation of  your grandfather, father, children etc. Cleve Backster, an interrogation specialist, had done lot of research in analyzing the behavior of Plants. In one of the research he used polygraph electrodes attached to Philodendron. The polygraph machine can record physiological changes just like ECG.After setting the electrodes, Baxter asked one of his colleague  to pluck the leaf of the plant. No changes were observed on the tape.Next he asked to pluck the bud and now again the plant did not show any change. Then Baxter asked him to burn the plant.Suddenly abnormal  waves were recorded on the tape.Initially Baxter thought there was some problem with his physiology and after repeated experiments confirme

Concept of Vegetarianism in Swamiji's words

The thought waves of previous births of all beings exist in the atmosphere. These thought waves are in the form of channels and life force of the respective person traverses through it during life and after death.During animal slaughter, powerful anti-waves are created in the atmosphere due to the merciless killing of a helpless animal. The atmosphere contains anti waves of the animals which are killed. A person who has slaughtered the animal or consumed the flesh , will be unable to overcome the anti-waves created during the willful slaughter of the helpless animal after death. In order to resist the anti-waves(these prevent the soul from rising from earth's atmosphere) his soul takes the form of the animal in the next birth. In the next birth the animal will become a human being and human being an animal . Here the new human slaughter's the new animal due to previous impressions. This cycle continues until one of them stops killing the other.During animal slaug

Sree Lalitha Sahasranamam recited by Swamiji

Sree Lalitha Sahasranama is from Brahmandapurana. Sree Lalithambika instructed Vasini and the Vagdevathaas to compose a hymn for the benefit of the devotees, hearing which Sree Lalithambika would be extremely pleased with the devotee and that hymn is Sree Lalitha Saharsanama. Sree Lalitha Sahasranamam should be recited after the dhyana slokam with devotion and sincerity, visualizing the Divine Mother in all her glory.Dhyana slokam visualises the full form of the  Divine Mother in all aspects. It contains roopavarnana, alamkaram and the divine power which helps the person chanting to devout completely to  the  Divine Mother .It is of great importance and benefit when we visualize and chant Lalitha Sahasranama. Lalitha Sahasranamam can be chanted in many  different ways.   In Stotram form, all 1,000 namams are separated into stotrams of a few namams each and recited in this way.  In mantra form, each namam is said individually, preceded by "Aum" and followed by "Namah

Understanding Renunciation from Swamiji's Padapooja Book

Happiness and Sorrow originates from the attachment of an object to the person who relates to it.To accept or renounce an object depends on the person's relationship to that object. The happiness in accepting the object, which a person experiences will not be there when the person renounces the object. This is because there is an inherent feeling that the object belongs to me. There are 2 types of desires. One in which a person  sacrifices something because he does not like it and another is where he accepts something because of liking. To Sacrifice something which a person does not like and the freedom experienced after that are the same. Renunciation should be understood in a different way. When you sacrifice something which you don't like it cannot be called Renunciation.Renunciation is something which you like and sacrifice it for the benefit and prosperity of others. When you sacrifice something which gives you sorrow that does not mean it can give happines

Identifying positive and negative waves using dowsing rods

A pair of L shape dowsing rods can be used to detect positive and negative waves. A wave can be a sound or thought wave.A positive wave is one which is good for us and the other which is not.For example if somebody shouts at us using filthy language then negative sound waves are propagated in the environment and this negative waves does not align with our culture and net result is a disaster. On the other hand when someone speaks good about  us positive sounds waves are propagated and we feel happy. The same principle apples when we think bad or feel jealous about another person or if we are in the company of a person with negative thoughts. This gives us an idea of positive and negative waves. If the 2 L shaped rods are brought in front of our gurus or Gods these rods will deflect showing positive waves. In one of the instance when the L shaped rods was brought in front of the picture of Brahma Sree Neelakanta Gurupadar,Guru of Jagadguru Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi Tiruvadikal the rods

Cyclic Model proves Hinduism's concept of the Universe.

Great Hindu saints from time immemorial have described the nature of the universe. The universe never ends and goes on in a cyclic manner. It expands and then contracts to an atom. The above theory was not accepted by the Western scientists for a long time. Two scientists Paul Steinhardt (Princeton University )  and Neil Turok (Cambridge University) did research on the Big Bang Theory and ended up with "cyclic model".They came to the conclusion that  there could be a timeless cycle of expansion and contraction. It’s an idea as old as Hinduism, updated for the 21st century.Whatever the  Hindu scriptures described about the universe millions of years ago has been proven scientifically in this century. This drives us to the conclusion that Hindu scriptures are very scientific and to the point. Most of what we discover today can be traced back to Hindu Scriptures written by Great Hindu Sages millions of years ago. Importance of Annadanam from Swamiji's Padapooja book

Of all the Yajna Annadanam is considered one of the most important. Annad bhavanti bhutani (All living beings subsist on food grains). This sloka from Gita tells us how Annam is closely knit with all living beings. " ദദസ്വാന്നം ദദസ്വാന്നം  ദദസ്വാന്നം യുധിഷ്ഠിര:" The above  sloka from Bhavishya Purana tells  us to give annam as danam.Without Annam one cannot imagine the existence of nature itself. "അന്നമേവ മനുഷ്യാണാം പ്രാണാനാഹുര്‍ മനീഷിണ: " Annam is the life force(pranan) and life force is annam as told by great saints. Ramayanam also speaks about Annadanam done by King Dasaratha and Lord Sree Ram.Of all the Yajna conducted Annadanam is considered to be the most important one. "കാലെ വര്‍ഷതി പര്‍ജന്യ  സുഭിക്ഷം വിമലാ ദിശ:.." Annandanam should be conducted in abundance as told by Kula Guru Vashishta muni.Always maintain  equal respect for all the people who take part in Annadanam and do not differentiate people based on character, status etc.Annam shoul

Things to follow while cooking and serving food from Swamiji's Padapooja Book.

Blog readers may find a bit surprising  to find a post on cooking and serving in a religious blog. However in reality without food there is no existence of nature itself.Annam or food is everybody's life force or if we put it in another way Life force is everybody's Annam or food. Annad bhavanti bhutani (All living bodies subsist on food grains) Annam bahu kurvita.(Ensure abundance of food all over) Annam na nindhyath (Do not abuse food) I have summarized a couple of points below from Swamiji's Padapooja book Kitchen should be considered equivalent to a Pooja Room. Cleanliness and purity should be maintained similar to a Pooja Room. While cooking make sure our mind is clean and not filled with unwanted thoughts.Any unwanted thought has a negative effect on the food. Avoid discussion on anybody/anything while cooking and serving the food. Prepare only the food required and concentrate on quality rather than increasing the number of dishes to show our financial status.

Lord Sree Ram's association with other sections of people

Common allegation against Sree Ram is that Ram was against people belonging to other caste and the incident narrated is that Sambhooka who belonged to sudra caste was killed by Sree Ram while in meditation. The fact is Lord Sree Ram was not against any section of people. There are a couple of examples in Ramayan to prove it. Sree Ram consumed food given by Sabari. and advised her the path of salvation.Sabari means parachi or chandali which belongs to a group below sudra. As per Marathi Ramayan the fruits offered to Sree Ram was tasted by Sabari.Sabari tasted the fruits to make sure she gave only the fruits with good taste to Sree Ram.Sree Ram  visted Sabari's Monastery because  she had attained supreme knowledge by practicing penance. Another example is about Guhan the tribal leader.Sree Ram on his way to Lanka met Guhan and embraced him and also while coming back from 14 years of exile with help of hanuman met Guhan again. Another allegation raised against Sree Ram is

Relationship between Sound and Form(Roopam)

It may be a surprise to hear that sound and form are one and the same.Lets look at an example and understand the above statement.A child sitting inside the house hears his father’s voice outside the house. After hearing his father’s voice the child need not go outside to confirm in order to tell his Mother that father is coming. When father’s voice is heard a picture of his father is formed in his mind.On the other hand  if the child did not have the image of the father associated with the sound he would have told somebody else had come. The image formed in child’s mind after hearing his father’s voice is through thought waves. With thought waves sound is formed as well as the image associated. When the child calls father also the same thought waves are used. When sound (Nada) is heard the first motion is Bindu and the image formed is Kala. The theory of creation is explained from Nada Bindu Kala. This explains that an image is merged in sound. When a glass falls and breaks we say with the

Is it meaningful to blow off a candle during birthday celebration ?

There is a custom followed , to blow off a candle kept at the top of the birthday cake.It is normally believed that if we make a wish and blow the candle the wish will come true. As per Hindu traditions blowing off the candle is inauspicious .All functions begin with lighting the lamp and the lamp is kept lighted until the function gets over, even after the function the lamp is turned off by hand or some other material like flower and not by blowing off. Light which is lit causes shining, anything that shines on its own makes other things to shine and acquire brilliance. To Hindus, darkness represents ignorance, and light is a metaphor for knowledge. Therefore, lighting a lamp symbolizes the destruction, through knowledge, of all negative forces. Viewed spiritually the lamp has the concept of Goddess Lakshmi ,the goddess of prosperity offers praeyas(tranquility in this world) and Saraswathi, the Goddess of learning offers Sreyas(tranquility in other world).Darkness caused by sorrow and

Harivarasanam Project by Jagadguru Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi Tiruvadikal

The Harivarasanam project was the dream project of Swamiji aimed at development of Sabarimala, the biggest Hindu piligrimage destination in the world. This eco friendly project was submitted to Travancore Devasom board & Government of Kerala in the year 1995 for approval..So far no action has been taken. The project was aimed at removing all difficulties faced by the crores of Ayyappa devotees who throng Sabarimala every year and to develop the overall infrastructure at Sabarimala. The project covers all aspects related to the temple starting from Flyover,Yajna mandapam,Tanthri Mandhiram,Gopuram,Hospitals ,Security towers etc Shri A.K Antony did try to implement this plan but due to other pressures did not succeed. The world famous architect from America Harby also had good words of appreciation for this project. The project was designed in a such a way that nobody could loot sabarimala money when implementating the project. If somebody alters the plan then it can open up for o
